The Birds and Bees

20130709-101658.jpg I checked on the new hive, with the swarm I caught two weeks ago, and found birds camped out side. The birds were flying by the entrance and eating bees. Not sure what can be done about this problem.

  1. I wouldn’t worry too much, they are unlikely to make a serious dent in numbers. You might want to put an entrance reducer in so that the birds have less access to the entrance. Entrance reducers can also help the colony defend themselves against wasps, which can become a problem in late summer.
